Suspect Cited for Theft at Self-Checkout on Highway 95 North

On October 17, 2024, at approximately 10:53 AM, a theft occurred at a self-checkout station on Highway 95 North. The victim reported requesting $60 cash back during a transaction but accidentally leaving the money at the register. After realizing the mistake, the victim returned to the store within three minutes, but the cash was already gone.

Store personnel reviewed video footage, which showed a female suspect taking the money from the machine. The suspect waited a few moments, folded the cash in her left hand, and placed it discreetly into her bag along with other items. Store management provided video evidence, receipts, and photographs, which were added to the case file.

Officers conducted a follow-up investigation the next day and obtained the suspect’s identity through her credit card transaction at the same register. Officers contacted the suspect, who admitted to taking the money, stating she had considered turning it in but decided not to. She was issued a criminal citation for theft and signed the citation without incident. The case was cleared by arrest.
