Highway Incident Involving Three Vehicles Results in Fatalities and Traffic Disruption
2:30 PM – Police, fire, and EMS units were dispatched to a head-on collision at Mile Marker 176 on the highway. Initial reports indicated a semi-truck jackknifed on the roadway, while a Dodge Ram pickup truck struck a speed limit sign.
2:36 PM – A second ambulance was requested to the scene as responders began assessing injuries and managing the crash site.
2:38 PM – Engine 3 arrived on scene and confirmed that a third vehicle, a utility truck, was involved in the collision. Vehicle details were identified as a semi-truck towing a 2007 Van Guard National trailer with Texas plates, a 2015 Chevy Traverse from Arizona, and the Dodge Ram pickup truck.
2:46 PM – Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers arrived at the scene to assist with the investigation and traffic management.
3:02 PM – An ambulance departed the scene with one patient requiring further medical care. Another individual was identified as having minor injuries and was treated on-site (“walking-wounded”).
3:26 PM – Engine 3 reported that the scene had been turned over to law enforcement. The fire unit returned to service.
Ongoing – Police have confirmed two fatalities from the collision. The highway remains blocked at McCulloch Boulevard, with traffic diverted through Sara Park. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is managing traffic control.
