11:48 AM: Desert Hills Fire Department has been dispatched to I-40 and mile marker 9 westbound following multiple reports of smoke in the area. DPS is also en route to the location.

11:53 AM: A separate call to dispatch reports three separate fires burning within 100 feet of each other, with visible flames and heavy black smoke.

12:00 PM: Fire Department is now on the scene and reports a brush fire burning on the right shoulder, covering approximately a 5×5 area, and another in the center median. Fire Department will proceed to extinguish the fires and conduct further investigation.

12:03 PM: DPS has informed that the fire was caused by a semi-truck approximately a mile from the location, where the axle caught fire. The fire on the semi has been extinguished.
